In issue #3 of All-New Venom, the story continues from where the last issue ended, with Venom engaged in an ongoing battle. However, unlike in the previous issue, a blast of energy this time passes through the center of his face, eliminating Luke Cage as a potential host. Although this isn’t entirely unexpected, the emergence of another suspect once the chaos subsides certainly is. It appears that Madame Masque managed to free herself from her captors without Venom’s assistance, and she has no intention of allowing him to hinder her future freedom.

Madame Masque, a character first introduced as «The Big M» in Stan Lee and Gene Colan’s story «The Coming of Whiplash!» published in Tales of Suspense #97 (1967), has had multiple identities throughout her life. These include Whitney Frost, Giulietta Nefaria, Bethany Cabe, and Kristine Longfellow. Growing up in a loving and wealthy family, she was only meant to temporarily mask her true self. Being the daughter of Count Nefaria, she eventually embraced her villainous heritage and has since been a formidable, yet sometimes underestimated, presence in the Marvel Universe.

Over the past few years, Madame Masque has reemerged as a significant figure due to events such as Marvel Comics’ «Gang War» crossover storyline, where various factions of New York City’s underworld engaged in widespread conflict over the control of their respective territories within the Big Apple. Although characters like Tombstone and Hammerhead were exposed during this time, it was actually Madame Masque who manipulated these events from behind the scenes. Regrettably for her, her actions fell short of her aspirations to seize control of New York City, resulting instead in her imprisonment and facing justice for her wrongdoings. However, she managed to break free once more, this time during a crowded court hearing.

The latest installment, titled «All-New Venom,» unfolds post the Marvel Comics crossover event known as «Venom War.» In this event, various symbiotes from the Marvel Universe clashed violently with one another, and the main conflict revolved around Eddie and Dylan Brock fighting over who should possess Venom. Each of them had disturbing premonitions about the consequences if the other continued to be bonded with the symbiote. As these two and their allies fought for control of Venom, more sinister figures like Meridius and Carnage worked in the background, pursuing their own objectives. Fortunately, the conflict concluded not with a grand explosion, but rather a quiet resolution. However, the «Venom War» paved the way for an unknown character to assume the role of Venom in its aftermath.
